Lily Pond, Forest Park, Springfield, Mass.

Forest Park (open to automobiles at low speed) covers a wooded area of almost 800 acres. Tennis courts line both sides of the entrance way. There are nature trails, baseball diamonds, bowling greens, a paddle pond, botanical gardens, and plenty of picnic areas. A large Zoo (open daily 10-7) contains a wide variety of animals in both outdoor ranges and animal houses. Fossil footprints of dinosaurs quarried in the Conecticut Valley near Holyoke are on exhibit in an outdoor enclosure. At Trailside Museum are exhibits of flora and fauna. Small ponds along the roadway contain rare specimens of lotus and water lilies in full bloom in July. The rose gardens are famous for their beauty.
