James Carruthers Greenough

Born at Wendell, Mass., Aug. 15, 1829; graduated at Williams College, 1860; teacher in private and public schools, 1854 - 1856; instructor in the Westfield Normal School (on leave of absence one year, to complete college course), 1856 - 1871; principal of the Rhode Island Normal School, 1871 - 1883; principal of the Westfield Normal School, 1887 - 1896; author of "Evolution of Elementary Schools of Great Britain."
