John Woodbridge Dickinson

Born at Chester, Mass., Oct. 12, 1825; graduated at Williams College, 1852; instructor in the Westfield Normal School, 1852 - 1856; principal of the Westfield Normal School, 1856 - 1877; secretary of the State Board of Education of Massachusetts, 1877 - 1894; president of the Massachusetts Teachers' Association, 1868 and 1869; author of "History of Education in Massachusetts;" died at Newton, Mass., Feb. 16, 1901.
